Have You Gotten Tested?

By Michael H. Westbrooks April 17, 2023 1 min read

Have you gotten tested? That’s a question I didn’t expect to hear in 2020.

As we wade through this pandemic, we’re dealing with something that bothers me — the unknown. Sometimes the unknown spurs wonder, like imagining what lies beyond Pluto. Sometimes it’s a mystery: Will my kids attend college in person or online this fall? But for many, the unknown brings fear, anxiety, and stress. Will my loved one survive? Will I keep my job? When will I get to hug my mom? Can I still retire before age 90?

My father is a voracious reader who loves mystery novels. Halfway through a juicy one, he’ll flip to the last few pages to peek at who’s alive. That’s the mystery! But if we’re honest, most of us want a glimpse of the ending. Does she live? Are they still married? Do we survive?

This mystery is something we face with clients every day. Many have a central question: “Am I going to be okay?” The question “Have you gotten tested?” made me think of the peace that can come from results. You’re going to be okay. Whew — what a relief.

When I think of the financial planning process, I think of that testing. We sit with clients, review assets, debts, risks, estate plans, dreams, goals, and fears, and sometimes spend years correcting course. When we can finally look a client in the eye and say, “You’re going to be okay,” it brings us immeasurable fulfillment. It’s why we do what we do.

Who do you know that needs to get “tested”? We exist because of client referrals, and we’d love to help someone you care about. We value the trust you place in our firm.
